About

The Galiano Concert Society is dedicated to bringing live performances by outstanding musicians to Galiano Island audiences. We present primarily, but not exclusively, classical music. In normal times, our five-concert season runs from late September or early October to late April or early May.

Although the concert society was legally incorporated in 1999, Galiano Island has a long tradition of music and arts presentations, and the concert society grew out of these less formal efforts.

The society has received generous and consistent support from the BC Touring Council and the Department of Canadian Heritage. This support has helped us present music of the highest quality by artists with international reputations at ticket prices islanders can afford.

Over the years our season has included performances by pianists Jon Kimura Parker, Marc Andre Hamelin, Ian Parker and Sarah Davis Buechner, vocalists Suzie LeBlanc and Russell Braun, and the Borealis, St Petersburg, and New Orford String Quartets, among many others. Our jazz and world music cabarets have featured the likes of La Candela, Tango Paradiso, Marc Atkinson, Safa and Celso Machado.

Most of our concerts are held at the South Galiano Community Hall, where one of Galiano’s many fine visual artists will display their work to accompany each concert.

The Galiano Concert Society is an entirely volunteer-run organization. The board of directors, aided by a few additional volunteers, do everything from planning and publicizing the concerts to setting up the hall and providing refreshments.

We announce concerts by advertisements in The Active Page, Galiano’s monthly magazine, and place posters on notice boards around the Island.
Tickets are available two weeks before each concert at Galiano Island Books, at Loose Leaf Tea & Papery (the Post Office), and at the door.
